I’ve been using Drop Box on and off for just under a year now. For those of you that have never heard of it, Drop Box is software that syncs your files online and across your computers – Best of all you can get started with 2GB of storage for free!
Heres a quick intro that explains Drop Box in a little more detail.
Lately I’ve found myself using Drop Box more and more, its a simple and slick tool thats great for backing up files, syncing your files across multiple devices, and sharing files with friends and colleagues.
In the past, sharing large project files with team members located off-site or submitting larger files for print, I found myself using FTP to upload the files and then sending emails containing a link to be downloaded. Or – from time to time, I find myself at my parents with a pile of family photos to go though. In the past, if I didn’t have a flash drive on me, I’d go thought the photos picking the best ones and emailing them to myself 3-4 at a time. Drop Box has easily streamlined these tasks for me.
With Drop Box, you can easily access your files anytime online, or download the desktop, or mobile applications to make drop box even easier. With the Drop Box desktop application installed on my mac, all I have to do is drag files or folders to my Dropbox folder on my computer, and Drop Box will automatically upload my content across my online account and any other devices I might have Drop Box installed on. It even updates if I delete or modify files in this folder. Sharing content is so simple, just add the desired persons email, they’ll be sent an invite and you’ll be sharing files in no time.
You can sign up to Drop Box for free and receive 2GB of storage free, they even make it simple to increase your free space. By inviting friends you’ll both receive an additional 250MB of storage! If 2GB isn’t enough for you they do have payed package of 50GB and 100GB.
The Drop Box applications are available for free on – Mac, Windows, and Linux. As well as mobile devices – IPhone/IPod Touch, IPad, Android, and soon Blackberry.
